A funny thing happened...I was trying to compose the 1st mov. for a string quartet and after a few hours I was ready to toss the music. It was too whimsical. Then it occurred to me to arrange the music for  the Piano Quintet (p+ 4 winds) that needed a finale. It works! I might have been writing for strings but the music is for winds in character. It's the 4th movement...

And here's the 5th piece from the piano suite. I'm calling the pieces "Meditations for Piano" since three of the five are slow and reflective--not suite-like at all :)

I've changed a bit of last month's quintet for winds and piano. It's now 5 movements and a little faster :o

My latest work (opus 129, and I really need opus numbers to keep things organized) is for Fl, Cl, Vln, Cello, and Piano. The 1st movement is based on a rhythmic motif and a 10-note set based on three chords in succession. It's "Fall" in my 4 Seasons at 6AM

You can follow the score at my blog...

Additionally, I have the 2nd piece: A Winter Morning which I just completed. It's not too long (3:30) but was an intense experience to compose. Here it is...I'll put the rough score on my blog..

I've just finished the "Spring" movement of the 4 seasons at 6AM. The only spring-like element is the sound of a unison pitch dividing into several lines. It's kinda "Canadian Spring"; short and a little bleak. The motif is longer than usual for me--a 5-note looping figure you here first in the violin. I watched some John Coltrane youtube last night and I think my motive resembles his Giant Steps motive, though it's hard to here in this less tonal context.

(the unedited score is tops on my blog)

Looking forward to taking a listen to these. Unfortunately I can't listen today as I am so busy with my own music stuff.....but I will write this meaningless post as a reminder to myself to check out your cool new music as soon as I can 8)

As I listen to this on a summer morning down under (with a fan blowing in my face), it certainly feels appropriate! I love the way the ensemble sounds so well balanced. I really would like to hear these season pieces performed with real instruments at some stage.

Thanks! I wish it felt appropriate up here in Canada!

Thanks! I think
the dissonant first two movements scared some people off!

The just-completed 1st movement of my 19th sinfonia. 3-06 I'll varnish it later.

Could be good filtration!  8)

Like they say in Maine:" You don't deserve the summer if can't take the winters."

Really liking the counterpoint in Summer Morning, it feels loose and swaying but always deliberate. Also the way you use a simple gesture to build up the sound at the beginning is very nicely done. All in all a well balanced piece with a naturally flowing structure.

I just finished the 2nd movement of Chamber Symphony 19.  It gets very hard and fairly tender all in 3:25. I will probably extend it...

Have now completed the draft of my latest Chamber symphony. The final movement will be the Vivace, which has been extended a bit.

The second movement will be this...

24 hours later... I composed a lyrical short, tonal work for Violin and Piano.
