Suggestions for websites with excellent articles

Hi! Since I am teaching some students in China who are going to the US Universities, I would like to suggest to them websites with excellent writing on a variety of subjects.  Considering many of the more famous websites especially those associated with major news organizations are often blocked in China (such as Reuters, BBC, CNN, NBC, etc.), what are some of the other sites that you often go to?

I used to know a few but can't remember them now, other than the Onion.

Yes, but it is off and on, depending on the time (sensitive time like an anniversary) or key words (anything containing certain key words from certain sites will be blocked).


I remember there was a site that I used to visit regularly that has everything from topical stuff to science, art, etc. But I forgot ...

There is a web site called arts and letters daily. It is basically a list of links to articles from many web sites. Probably not all blocked.

There's a newish site called medium. Maybe it's blocked.
