Help identify this music, please

Hi all,

I have been meaning to find out what this piece is ever since I first heard my violin teacher play it for me. He used to play it a lot and I have had in my head for years, not being able to know its title or by whom it is. Finally I came across it this summer while sightseeing in Kleve (Germany). It is played as background music for track 8 of the town's tourist audioguide (https://www.kleve-tourismus.de/fileadmin/Mediendatenbank/Audio_Englisch/08_The_Crusifix_Memorial.mp3)

Please do help me identify this piece. I'd be most grateful
