Maybe Amazon.com hegemeny wasn't such a bad thing. Back in the bad old days when they were using their monopoly power to put the screws on book publishers, kindle books were in the $10 dollar range. Now they've been creeping up to $12.99, $13.99, $14.99. I realize that the cost of the physical book is not the dominant cost, but I think I deserve some kind of break for saving them the trouble of manufacturing the physical edition and storing it in some warehouse until I order it.

For ebook shoppers, I advise you to consider bookbub.com. If you sign up for their service, you can specify the types of book you are interested in (by genre, or by author) and they will send you email notices when something meeting your criteria goes on sale. These days 80% of my ebook purchases are BookBub leads for $1.99.
