OK: Spanish-like, knight-like costume - child - around 1880 or so -> De Falla?

Yes.

See? Piece of cake. Your turn.

Thank you.

A photo of this composer from 1904. We mostly see portraits of this composer when he is a bit older and actually looks more troubled.
Not that he lived a very long life though.

French? or maybe Russian? I'd say rather French-looking, though.

There´s something French to his artist-inspired outfit, and there´s no doubt he studied French culture. But he is from the Eastern parts of Europe ...

Turner

I checked, but he never went to Paris. Gained some attention there in 1910, for example.

Well done!

Thanks. Scout's honour I didn't cheat! I can't even find that picture on Google --- but when you said "Eastern Europe" yet not Russian, a bell ringed in the back of my memory! I googled him and the pictures I found look indeed like he in old age.

I agree. I googled "Ciurlionis + portrait", then the picture shows up :)

Okay, who is this guy?

Hint: he's a one hit man, but he made it really big --- you guys have all heard it, probably in countless arrangements and versions.

As we say in Spain, "NPI".  ???

I must have missed this expression. What does it mean?  :D

And yet if I posted the one and only hint, you'd immediately name the tune, although now that I think of it, probably not the composer.

Okay, here it is: Danubio.

As we still say in Spain, NPI;)

Turner

I know it only as Donau Waves, and then it turned out to be Iosif Ivanovici (have an old Elecrecord LP version, the composer named too).

Supplementary hint 1: a waltz.

Supplementary hint 2: it has got something to do with waves.

Supplementary hint no. 3: as far removed from Boulez as it gets: probably, and possibly, hummed unknowingly across all five continents.

After all those hints, and Turner's reply, I must confess I have never heard of Mr. Ivanovici, have never heard of that waltz, and never (knowingly, at least) listened to that music. Mandarinsim has alienated me from the real world? Ich bin der welt abhanden gekommen?   ;D
