The riddle is solved! This was the original, to do him a bit more justice :

All this pointing to woodwork, apparently a mountain scenery, and heavy dressing, would perhaps suggest a German or Middle/East-European photo origin, say between 1865-1895?

The time frame is right but the region is not.

Hint: in mature age he looked more or less the same, with two differences.

Another hint: he wanted to study with Liszt but looked for him in the wrong location.

No.
Is he Western European?

EDIT:
Actually, very close to home...That's an infant Isaac Albéniz.

That looks like a cross between Borodin and Inspector Clouseau.

Mirror Image

Time to throw another composer out there...who is this?

Mirror Image

If not one's guessed by tonight (US time), I'll give a hint.

André

Gösta Nystroem.

Another excellent swedish composer.

Spineur

Well done André.  This was quite difficult.

André

Not really.

- I have lots of his music and more or less knew what he looked like
- MI has posted recently about this composer, which he rightfully loves. Plus, he may have been subconsciously influenced by one of the previous mystery images (Erland von Koch), from the same time and place.
- From the look of the pic it seems to belong to the world of Ingmar Bergman (overcast skies, northern light, + he's dressed for outside and it doesn't seem very warm up there  :D.
