Just an update for those of you who were so kind when I posted recently about my brother's terminally ill baby.

She was born just over three weeks ago with Patau's Syndrome, a rare and life-limiting genetic disorder. It was very hard for my brother, his girlfriend and their nine-year-old daughter to come to terms with this, but the new baby defied doctors and didn't die as quickly as expected. In fact, she got to spend a week at home with her family, before passing peacefully yesterday evening.

I had the pleasure of meeting her and holding her last Friday - she was a beautiful little girl, and very much loved. This is a horribly sad time for my brother and his family, and I know those of you who wished them all well will continue to do so, so thank you. :)

My sincere condolences to her family and to you, Mark. May God rest in peace her innocent soul!

Mark, this must be an unbearably sad time for all of you. My thoughts are with your family and little Lola.

May she rest in peace, with the blessings, love and care from God. 0:)

Sorry to hear that Mark  :-\ I hope it is a bit of a consolation that you could spend a little time with her in her own home.

Is this condition not one of those genetic disorders that can be determined in the early stages of pregnancy?

Gabriel

My condolences for you and your family, Mark. God alone knows the reasons of these situations; may He bring peace to you all and keep her with Him.

Gee, I am really sorry to hear that. I hope you guys are coping with it in a bearable way. I know it is hard... When my second daughter was a 16 week old fetus and my wife went for one of those sonograms the doctor said there was a very small chance (but a chance nonetheless) that the fetus might have a rare genetic disorder which would make her live not more than a few days after birth. They (the doctors) suggested that my wife and I go for genetic couseling and/or have fluid drawn from the womb to ascertain whether the fetus actually had the disorder or not. It was one of the most unnerving times of my life. We were lucky that the baby is okay but I can well imagine how your brother and his wife felt.

Anyway I am really sorry to hear that...

My condolences, as well. This might sound odd, but I have a powerful impression of what something like this means to the child's relatives... Stay strong! And may she rest in peace. :)
