While I understand Sarge's point, my opinion is this is a harmless game.  But, if too many people opt out, then as Sammy says there won't be enough members for it to work.  The idea of this kind of game is for a consensus to emerge and a meaningful ranking of the works to result.  In the process some works would be voted out.

For me it would be an interesting exercise.

I have done this with operas on an opera forum before, ending up with a ranking of preferences for Wagner which was immensely fun, but not all games work in every forum as I really get a sense the atmosphere, humour and style of communication are unique to each one. Downvotes are evidently not so popular here because of that.

Here is the result of the Wagner game:

1. Die Walküre
2. Tristan und Isolde
3. Götterdämmerung
4. Das Rheingold
5. Lohengrin
6. Siegfried
7. Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg
8. Tannhäuser
9. Der Fliegende Holländer
10. Parsifal
11. Rienzi
12. Die Feen
13. Das Liebesverbot

Actually I tried to do this here with the same rules, but again the voter turnout ended up being so low that after a while people just left and the thread died a sad and lonely death.

I will do a new final round for this game to see if we can sort out a final top 20 list based on upvotes and bonus points, if we prefer doing that here. 8)

I'll keep an eye on this particular pinata from a distance.

I'm going to redo this final round to make sure more people are willing to participate, no more voting in this thread!

Florestan

Such a big fuss, bordering on saccharine melodrama, for an innocuous and inconsequential game... Blimey, some people have absolutely no sense of proportion, let alone humor! Clearly, too much "serious" music damages the brain...  >:D :P

On the other hand, where's the fun if my motives are going to be impugned because I didn't vote for one of the "greatest pieces ever written?"  I won't be participating further.

I won't be participating further.

Neither will I. I have already reached a saturation point with these games.

I'm not participating in this game, I am participating in other games.

One of the best pieces ever written, gone just like that.

Berg - Kammerkonzert - 5
Boulez - Dérive 2 for 11 instruments - 5
Brahms - Clarinet Trio in A minor, Op. 114 - 6
Brahms - Horn Trio - 5
Copland - Appalachian Spring (original chamber version) - 6
Cras, Jean - Quintet for flute, harp and string trio - 3 (-2)
Debussy - Sonata for Flute, Viola and Harp - 5
Enescu - Chamber Symphony Op 33 - 5

Hindemith - Kammermusik No 1 - 5
Martinu - Nonet (H314) - 7
Mozart - Serenade no. 10 "Gran Partita" - 5
Messiaen - Quatuor pour la fin du temps - 5
Mozart - Quintet for Piano and Winds - 5
Ravel - Introduction et Allegro for harp, flute, clarinet & string quartet - 5
Ravel - Trois Poèmes de Stéphane Mallarmé - 5
Schoenberg - Chamber Symphony in E major Op. 9 - 5
Schoenberg - Pierrot lunaire, Op. 21 - 5
Schoenberg - Serenade, Op. 24 - 6 (+1)

Well I like Music in 12 Parts too, but "one of the best pieces ever written" seems a tad over the top.

Considering a lack of interest, I think I will just leave the two rounds as they are

It is important to keep the ranked list of eliminated items, since that is to become the final ranked result of this game. I'm observing the convention that most recently eliminated piece goes on the top of the eliminated list. The Glass was eliminated first, so it has to lowest ranking, at the bottom of the list.

The result of Florestan's play:

Berg - Kammerkonzert - 5
Boulez - Dérive 2 for 11 instruments - 2
Brahms - Clarinet Trio in A minor, Op. 114 - 6
Brahms - Horn Trio - 6
Copland - Appalachian Spring (original chamber version) - 6

Schoenberg - Pierrot lunaire, Op. 21
Boulez - Le marteau sans maître
Glass - Music in 12 Parts

I like this game a little bit more than the regular positive-only voting games since it yields a ranked list of all the works, not just the top 3 or 5.
