A perfect ending to an excellent game; I'm very glad that I gave the Webern 5 points to set the stage for Zemlinsky to move forward.

Advancing To The Finals:

Haydn - String Quartet in D minor, op. 76/2 "Quinten" - 73
Webern - Movements for String Quartet, op. 5 - 100
Zemlinsky - String Quartet no. 2, op. 15 - 69

Round Nine will start later today.

Well played. I like the result of this round.

Happy for the Zemlinsky.

Cool to see another "outside" choice in Zemlinsky go forward to the next stage. Would have liked Beethoven 12 over the Haydn but I'll settle for seeing more Webern through.

Zemlinsky squeaks by Mozart? That's what I get for calling my mother on the telephone for Mother's Day instead of voting!  >:(

In Round Nine you --- actually, we all --- can witness the rarest of all rare natural phenomena: Gurn not voting for Haydn.

That was a long call... :P

It ate up all the time that had been allotted to me for dawdling. :(

Yes, I noticed that - rather unusual in that the "Emperor" is probably Haydn's most popular string quartet.  If Gurn's not voting for it, I'm not either.

Sez the Boulez voter!

That was almost as shocking.

Well, we are fairly well-stocked with Haydn, to the point where he is knocking himself out in later rounds by splitting his own votes. So after 8 rounds, I felt like I should go with some of my other favorites. I missed a Bartok work in an earlier round, felt like I needed to try for something of his, he deserves to be on the master list!  :)
