Welcome to Game Four of A Game Of Your Own.  This game is brought to us by the illustrious GMG member Trout who offers his favorite 20 modern/contemporary works.  When voting is complete, I will announce the 5 compositions most favored by our voting members.

Voting Rules:

1.  You may vote once daily.

2.  When you vote, you will have 10 upward points to distribute as you wish except that no work may receive more than 5 points.

3.  Trout's game ends with the first work to reach 100 points.

4.  The Half-Time Adjustment is in effect.  With the first work to garner 50 points, the 8 having the lowest scores will be eliminated from the game; this number could rise if there are ties toward the bottom of the board.

Glad to see this finally started! Hope people have been able to catch up with some of the more unfamiliar works.

I consider all of these pieces to be landmarks in my classical music listening. Each one really expanded my view of what classical music has to offer, from the lush and massive harmonies of Wozzeck, to the complex Eastern rhythms and timbres in Cage's Sonatas and Interludes, to the overpowering hypnotism of Einstein on the Beach. While many pieces by Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Mahler, and Sibelius are certainly also among my all-time favorites, they did not thrill me in the same way that these 20 did upon first-listening and still continue to do. For me, that thrill is the feeling of diving head-first into some completely uncharted territory. It is a certain anxious excitement in experiencing something radically and unapologetically new. And although I haven't felt it too much in recent years, I always continue to hope that the next new piece I hear satisfies this unquenchable urge.
