Just got aware of #11 and had a quick listen to mvmt. 4. Erm, variable timing? I doubt the composer noted such flexible timing.

Still waiting for a 24/96 download of the 4/11 set.  Apparently, Qobuz has it for download, but I don't have access to them.


...Apparently Presto is offering a 24/96 download, but I only see the 16/44 version here in the US.

EDIT: I'm now able to put the 24/96 download in my Presto basket.  $15.25 for Symphonies 4 & 11.

The beginning of 11/4. Tocsin movement. The brass are played in a slow tempo (Celibidache-esque), the followup strings way faster (as I'm used to). I don't know if Nelsons does this more often. But I'm used to a uniform tempo.
The oboe solo in that movement has some slightly annoying higher frequency noise (like, 8000 Hz, I don't know) e.g. can clearly be heard at @8:45, very strong at 9:11. It's not the mastering, it's the instrument which emits it. Where is the mastering engineer when you need one ;-)

I am not that picky about sound so I am waiting for Amazon to have 4 and 11 for free Prime streaming and download. The other 2 releases are already there. Can't really find fault with the performances as I love the BSO, they play beautifully regardless of who conducts.

It would be interesting to see whether the cycle continues with 13 or 14 or whether he goes for the admittedly not "great" works like 1-3, or 12.

14 has already been performed, as have 7 and 6, and they're awaiting future releases.  Next season, they will perform 1 and 15.  He'll be sure to finish the cycle.

I am sure he will. Be interesting to see what catchy phrase DG comes up with for 1-3, or 12.
