My musical New Year's resolution is to just continue exploring this music and finding new composers. Last year or year before that (can't quite remember), I made a breakthrough and was able to finally appreciate solo piano music and lieder/songs/mélodies. Opera is still one genre I can't fully appreciate aside from the few favorites I have like Debussy's Pelléas et Mélisande and Bartók's Bluebeard's Castle (of course I like many more but just citing these two as examples).

Opera is a genre I've always avoided in the past for some reason, but recently I've been discovering superb works like Janacek's Jenufa, Barber's Vanessa, and Alwyn's Miss Julie that are making me realize what I've been missing!

Saw Jenufa in Munich recently. Terrifically dark opera.....don't miss From the House of the Dead! Do you have opera companies near you that regularly put on productions?

Way to go Kyjo!  Congrats for dipping your toe(s) in further into the world of opera!   :)

Well, if you need any further recommendations, then don't hesitate to come here and inquire. Like I said, I'm not an opera enthusiast by any stretch of the imagination, but there are a few that I'm incredibly passionate about and that have meant a great deal to me.
