"Music is enough for a lifetime, but a lifetime is not enough for music" - Sergei Rachmaninoff

Well, both the Rorem and Gould works have striking/beautiful/impressive openings & first movements. The rest of these works I find less interesting.
Since I love the combination of organ and orchestra, the grandly fanfaresque opening of Weinberger's Passacaglia was an instant hit. Janacek's Symphonietta may have been an inspiration. It's truly a great (grand) piece!
Here's another work by an unknown Czech composer (my thanks go to Jan Fila) that I recently discovered on YT and enjoy:

the powerful and craggy "Rožmberk Castle sonata" for winds and percussion by Václav Riedlbauch (1947 - 2017). It is performed by members of the Czech Philharmonic  & Jiří Bělohlávek.

Count me as another fan of organ/orchestra combination. That Weinberger's Passacaglia sounds appealing. Thanks for the recommendation.
