Just joined and look forward to conversing and learning some things. I play clarinet (since 1963, professionally since 1973). Also a scuba Divemaster, but getting on the old side for that...

Hi, TMHeimer, and welcome. (Was tempted to call you Divemaster Dude, but since you just arrived, too soon.  ;D)

You'll find at least one other clarinetist here (hello, Karl), and lots of interesting people with tons of knowledge about all kinds of classical music. Enjoy.

The man that hath no music in himself,
Nor is not moved with concord of sweet sounds,
Is fit for treasons, stratagems, and spoils.
The motions of his spirit are dull as night,
And his affections dark as Erebus.
Let no such man be trusted.

As a clarinetist, some of the usuals I suppose. Weber, Mozart, Debussy, Nielsen, perhaps Brahms, and a host of more contemporary folks. Regarding Orchestral & Band composers Rossini, Shostakovich, Rimsky-Korsakov, Holst, Rachmaninoff--well I guess a whole lot more.

Very nice. One of my favorite pieces written for the clarinet is Poulenc's Clarinet Sonata. Such an incredible piece.

TMHeimer

Yeah, I've played the Poulenc a couple of times, including for my Masters recital. Great work that "flows well". Sounds harder than it is technically.
