I'm sure that that would make things even tougher.  Maybe some of the people ate in town and/or shopped/paid for hotels, etc.?

I didn't catch much of the women's matches today unfortunately, but was a bit surprised to see Sabalenka beaten today by Anisimova (will have to catch some of the highlights) and also Iga on through.

Fritz vs. Alcaraz tomorrow and Sinner vs. Djokovic tomorrow.  Popcorn matches.

We are on our third heatwave this summer. Wimbledon must be unbearable for players.

According to the weather info on my computer, it's currently 86 (30) there.  Ouch!  You can see lots of spectators fanning themselves.   :(

It's heating up here again too.

Sorry to see Novak struggling out there.  I know that in the last round that he slipped (sort of doing the splits) and I think might have hurt one of his hips (not positive of the diagnosis).  He was struggling to stop and reverse quickly when doing things like running to hit returns by Sinner.  And no disrespect meant towards Sinner; he played brilliantly.

In any event, it will be Sinner vs. Alcaraz in the final on Sunday.  They had a long and intense battle at Roland Garros this year (5 hours and 29 minutes).

They all play the Australian Open. Having experienced as a spectator the kind of temperature that is not sufficient to stop play (if it's dry heat rather than humid), I honestly doubt that Wimbledon, even hot Wimbledon, is going to push them past their limits.

(Honestly, there was a day one year where I thought "this is it, I've killed my mother by bringing her to the tennis")

Nobody has to apologise for using their brain.

I can handle dry heat much better than warm and humid weather.  I have seen some spectators needing assistance this year (happened at least three times--that I've heard of).  From what I recall, the PTB changed the rules a few years ago to allow heat breaks for the players...would be interested in seeing how they figure that all out.  Trust that your mother didn't need a medic?   Lots of people in the stands using various kinds of fans to try and keep cool.

That's neat that you were able to go to the AO.  Do you remember who all was playing in the matches that you watched?

p.s.  Swiatek off to a fast start; now, 3-0.

I've been to the Australian Open at least 5 times. The list of people seen is fairly decent.

Excellent!  :) Did you ever see Roger and/or Rafa play?  Or Serena or Venus?  Any particularly memorable matches?

Sorry to see Amanda A. routed; however, you could see that she was out of gas and probably nervous about being in a final at a slam for the first time.  Her speech afterwards was very touching.

Well done to Iga and her team!  :)

Yes, she spoke with great dignity whilst being so understandably upset.

Glad to hear that. I had to turn it off, I couldn't get any pleasure from seeing somebody suffering and misfiring so badly. I do hope she can come back wiser and stronger from the experience, she's clearly very talented

I missed seeing this question while the forum collapsed.

Federer and Djokovic and Murray, but not Nadal. Marat Safin a long time ago, firing aces in my direction which was unnerving.

I saw the Williams sisters playing doubles together in 1999, which was awesome. Li Na. Radwanska. I'm forgetting tonnes.

Lots of great matches I'm sure, but the one I remember from the last visit was Angelique Kerber vs Hsieh Su-Wei. Maybe not the superstar combination you'd expect, but magnificent tennis.

Then there's the 5-set men's match involving Tipsarevic which might have been one of my favourite ever if not for the 2 young heterosexual men behind me who would not shut up for 3 hours. And yes, their conversation often focused on things that made their heterosexuality clear. They were almost never talking about the tennis, which is what I pointed out when I finally rounded on them.

Oh, cool!  So happy for you!  Did you ever see any of the finals?  And so sorry to hear about the guys yakking away behind you and disturbing your enjoyment of the match.  :(

I've never been to a final, no. Rather expensive. Your best value is around the 3rd or 4th round.
