Has anyone come across this pianist? At first, thought he was good and even saw him live twice. Watched him on U Tube and was so disappointed. First video was of him performing Krieslers Leibesleid. Don't know whether its me that prefers it performed on violin, but this arrangement sounded to me like jazz.
Then watched him perform Liszt Harmonies du Soir. Was awful. Think he was impersonating Lang Lang with the facial expressions and acrobats.
Know Liszt himself was a showman but that was ridiculous.
Maybe Giltburg is better performing Russian composers. He's not too bad with them.

What does anyone else think?

I have never seen him live or on video, but his recording of the Shostakovich piano concertos is first-class, very sharp and alert and tense. I haven't listened too carefully to his other work but it seems like his reputation mostly lies in Russian music.

Is the Shostakovich the one with V Petrenko and RLPO. I have that one, and must admit, it is good🎼🎼

He has several recordings on Naxos.  What I have varies from excellent to competent.  I liked his Liszt CD (Transcendental Etudes) but of course there was no video component there. Also good is his Rachmaninoff. Haven't tried his Beethoven or Schumann,

Hollywood Beach Broadwalk

San Antone

His recording of the Liszt B Minor Sonata is very good.

His recording of the three Prokofiev war sonatas (Nos.6, 7 & 8) is superlative and reference quality. I haven't liked anything else I've heard from him.
