Up-and-coming Belgian pianist Valere Burnon is a great advocate for the works of Sergei Protopopov:

Here he is in the Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto #3:

"Meet Miss Ruth Sherwood, from Columbus, Ohio, the Middle of the Universe!"

- Brian Aherne introducing Rosalind Russell in  My Sister Eileen (1942)

Viotti Piano Competition... I guess there is also a Clementi Violin Competition.  :D

I think it's highly likely this will end up in my collection. I don't own a recording of 3 of the 4 works, and Wit is a fine conductor.

The Kuchar Dvorak box also has some of these pieces.

Traverso

Richard Strauss

Tod und Verklärung
Vier Letzte Lieder

I really love these songs.they are a farewell , full of nostalgia and love them for that.

DavidW

Inspired by Que's posts... Schumann's piano concerto:

And then I switched to Dvorak:

Karajan/Janowitz performance of Vier letzte Lieder is very, very good, imo.

Carl Nielsen

Fabio Luisi & Danish National Symphony Orchestra

"You cannot expect the Form before the Idea, for they will come into being together." - Arnold Schönberg

Linz

Tchaikovsky Nutcracker, Semyon Bychkov; Berliner Philharmoniker

vers la flamme

György Ligeti: Chamber Concerto; Ramifications for String Orchestra; Ramifications for 12 Solo Strings; Lux aeterna; Atmosphères. Friedrich Cerha, Ensemble "Die Reihe" Wien (Chamber Concerto); Ernest Bour, SWR SO Baden-Baden (Ramifications 1 & Atmosphères); Antonio Janigro, Kammerorchester des Saarländischen Rundfunks (Ramifications 2); Clytus Gottwald, Schola Cantorum Stuttgart (Lux aeterna)

That took a long time to type out ;D But this is an incredible CD that I would recommend to anyone. Every time I hear it, it occurs to me that I should be listening to Ligeti much, much more.

John Field
Nocturnes (selection)
John O'Conor, piano

(on CD)

Perfectly lovely works, beautifully played. They're not in the same league as Chopin's nocturnes, but they're still pleasant and charming.
So much great music, so little time...

William Alwyn
Lyra Angelica

Susan Willison (harp)
David Lloyd-Jones & Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra

So melodiously fluent, persuasive and suggestive music; Hickox's recording is provably my favourite version, but Lloyd-Jones is very convincing too.

I've always liked the Lloyd-Jones better, but now I want to revisit the Hickox!

I've only heard the Lloyd-Jones, but now I want to hear the Hickox!

I finished listening to this set with Quartets No.3 and 15. Sublime.
