Not really sure.
Brahmsian sprung into my mind at one point in the First Quartet (1929). You might not realize they were written by a contemporary of Schönberg, Bartok, or Ligeti. Or even Shostakovich. (Number 3 was composed in 1964.)

I liked them but not yet settled on anything beyond that.

(Is that enough confusion for a penny?)

Parry's 5th well worth a listen. Brahms lurking in first movement but not so much after that, actually hardly at all.
You must have a very good opinion of yourself to write a symphony - John Ireland.

I opened the door people rushed through and I was left holding the knob - Bo Diddley.

I might settle for a Canadian penny.  ;D

Eduard Franck - yesterday and this morning, I'm finishing up my E. Franck collection w/ the recordings below - this is well composed and performed music - this 'forgotten' German Romantic composer should receive more attention - in my searching the last few days, seems that little in the way of new recordings (or other labels) has been added.  Dave :)

First listen Wednesday. Sounding good so far - so good, in fact, that I've rolled directly into #4. Organ music sometimes leaves me a little cold, but this is very accessible and not in any way overwhelming.

Isn't #4 a great work? Superb, thoughtful, opening movement 🙂

I find the smaller works more interesting than the fantasies, but the opera medleys certainly show off Yang's virtuosic technique.
