Ives: Concord Sonata

Deeply impressing, the best account of it I've heard. It seems to lie so naturally in Hamelin's hands.

Listening to the Schubert/Liszt here for the first time in a few years, I have an intuition that @Florestan  would appreciate these extraordinary performances. I mean, like, you have to be a bit of a hedonist. Just let the beauty of it fill you, like a heady wine.  Also, the free, almost jazzy, approach made me think of Francesco Tristano Schlime's Frescobaldi, so . . .
Wovon man nicht sprechen kann, darüber muss man schweigen

Miaskovsky: String Quartet No.3

I don't why it should be of interest but for me at least it is. 1st Quartet in 4 movements, 2nd Quartet in 3 and 3rd in 2. ???

I found the second movement in the form of Theme and Variations more original. Theme being Grieg's Cradle Song followed by an inspired set of variations which alternate slow and fast. Every so often Miaskovsky comes up when you least expect a sublime melody which he does here with one of the slow variations.
You must have a very good opinion of yourself to write a symphony - John Ireland.

I opened the door people rushed through and I was left holding the knob - Bo Diddley.

Excellent performances and sound.

Is this the set from ca. 2000 which was released on DVD only?
Reality trumps our fantasy far beyond imagination.

One of his better efforts. Nevertheless. Half the reason I said anything is that I consider Dvorak a greater melodist, more consistent, than the fabled Schubert. Opinions will of course vary.
Nobody has to apologise for using their brain.

I just cheked that Schubert--stunning. Schlime's recording "On Early Music"--I'm not sure what to make of that! Yes, his playing is great, but I have never heard a piano so closely recorded, and it sounds more like a digital than an acoustic piano. I read that it's a Yamaha CFX, but it certainly doesn't sound like one.
