The Waldstein Sonata, Sonata No. 7, and a bizarre cluster of loud sounds in between.

Agreed about Sancta Civitas - good live performances here too.  Rohzdestvensky had a real feel for British music.

The first movement of the first symphony is aptly marked Allegro frivolo. However, the composer could have been more accurate to title the whole symphony like that epithet.

The Three Symphonic Dances is a tad more interesting, better orchestrated and more concise.

I try hard to 'get' or enjoy Cyril Scott.  The concision of some of his piano pieces works to his advantage I feel - the orchestral works are too discursive and rambling for me.... but I will keep on trying.

A selection from the 1st and 2nd book of madrigali spirituali by Phillipus de Monte, master of the chapel of the Imperial Habsburg court during the 2nd half of the 16th century. Music of outstanding quality. Out of 800 (!) secular and spiritual madrigals, this selection is just scratching the surface....
As a nice touch a few madrigals by Constanza Porta, Cipriano de Rore,  Pietro Vinci and Luca Marenzio are mixed in.

How did you like Maderna's music, Steve? He's a favourite of mine, and that is an excellent CD of is orchestral music...

I need to become more familiar but generally like Maderna.

K379 in G Major
K6.  in C Major
K547 in F Major
K378 in B Flat Major

This is the only set I have that includes all the sonatas, and not just the 16 "mature" sonatas. It's also the only PI set I have. (The others are Mutter/Orkis, Szeryng/Haebler, and Capuçon/Armstrong.)
Great music - incredibly silly/stupid cover design....

More great Mozart - now with real instruments!
