Bridge: the Piano Sonata again. Just a fantastic work in Bridge's late style.

Every single post on the forum is unnecessary. Including the ones that are interesting or useful.

Hindemith: Symphony 'Mathis der Maler'

Prompted by @ritter's excellent review in the 'What concerts are you looking forward to?' thread (#7173), I realised it'd been a long time since I last listened to this magnificent piece. And it's a great joy to be reunited.
An excellent recording too, Salonen always seems such a natural at finding mood and colour in a score, and naturally enough bearing in mind the work's debt to Grünewald's paintings, there's a rich supply of both amidst the overall grandeur.

Comala is a 1897 (Belgian) Prix de Roma cantata by Joseph Jongen, on texts by Paul Gilson (himself a composer), based on Ossian.

I should have learnt by now that whenever I see "Prix de Rome" on a CD cover, I better run in the opposite direction and never look back...  ::)

Maybe you should try Niels Gade's Comala, he didn't win the Prix de Rome.

These are the first complete recordings I bought in the LP era.
My first LP with string quartets  was with the Lasalle quartet.
This was in response to a review of the quartet in the  novel "Point Counter Point", Aldous Huxley.

Nice recording! Enjoying autumn in Hokkaido?

I normally like or even love piano transcriptions, but Bach's Cello Suites simply do not work for me.

It's scarcely a transcription, and even less so an arrangement. She simply performs the nearly unaltered cello score on the piano.
Reality trumps our fantasy far beyond imagination.

How is this possible? Left-hand or right-hand only?

Martinu String Sextet, Kocian Quartet and friends.

Similar in style to the String Quartets, with an added richness due to the two additional voices. Superb music, performance and recording.
Formerly Scarpia (Scarps), Baron Scarpia, Ghost of Baron Scarpia, Varner, Ratliff, Parsifal, perhaps others.

I don't see how it could fail to be possible. Probably one hand is almost sufficient, although some of the multiple stops in the music might span a range larger than one hand and require a second to be sneaked in.

Mozart, Divertimento KV439b, No 4 for three basset horns, Meyer's Trio di Clarone

Wonderful little gem featuring ingenious voice leading and some surprising dissonances.

It is a brief piece so I pulled up the Netherlands Wind Ensemble recording. A wonderfully perky realization of the music.
