Presumably this is orchestral pieces? I can't find it on Apple Music.

I'm happy enough with Solti, Szell, and Karajan collections of preludes, etc. But it would be nice to hear this one. I found something similar from him on Decca just now, so that's good.  ;D

Quote from: vandermolen on December 03, 2024, 07:47:01 AMMy favourite CD of VW's film music (actually I'm playing the Naxos reissue). My dad served in Coastal Command in WW2, so I've always had a soft spot for that score:

"49th" is a great movie. It's pure propaganda  (more than anything else I've seen from The Archers during wartime, though they certainly have others). But it's brilliantly done.

Szell is "Papa"? That's a new one for me.

The second theme in the first movement has a kind of ingratiating character, like a cat rubbing against one's trouser leg.

Who knew that Karajan and the VPO had a great Planets in them.  And this was his first recording of it.  In fact, I'd say this is the kind of music that he excelled in more than the core Germanic repetoire.  (I'm thinking of his Prokofiev, Shostakovich, Tchaikovsky, Honegger, and Sibelius.)
