Gabriel Faure.

Sonate for Violin and Piano, No.2, in E minor.
Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

"When Time hath gnawed our bones to dust, yet friendship's echo shall not rust"

Florestan

As an ex-Imgur user I would think this present useless UK government has more pressing problems then policing image sharing sites!

Karl Henning

Quote from: Brian on September 30, 2025, 07:28:59 PMI think it is also worth saying that in his earlier years, before his DG ultra-slow personality cult performances, Bernstein rarely distorted or disregarded a composer's written intentions. Or, perhaps, not more than average for a conductor of his day. In his New York days, he seems to have very clearly gotten the spirit of a European like Haydn.

Brian: Cello Concerto and Violin Concerto

Trying the two concertos by this controversial composer. The Violin Concerto has its moments, it moves along the line of his symphonies featuring prominent brass and percussion and some attractive orchestral touches, it blends the bold with the lyrical fairly well, and the Cello Concerto... what a purposeless, plain, uninteresting work which has nothing to offer other than emphasized dullness. The Violin Concerto saved the day.

The current annihilation of a people on this planet (you know which one it is) is the most documented and at the same time the most preposterously denied. The terror IS REAL!

Quote from: pjme on October 02, 2025, 03:11:46 AMFor me the Fantasia concertante (concerto nr ) is an old friend. many years ago I bought a DGG LP for de Falla and found the Martinu! Martinu wrote it for Margit Weber, a Swiss pianist and paedagogue who premiered Stravinskys Movements and quite an impressive amount of other contemporary works (Tscherepnins 6 th concerto )

von Eckardstein made a huge impression in 2003 when winning the Queen Elisabeth competition.

Thanks for all of this. That old Kubelik album looks quite interesting, too, though what an odd pair the Martinu makes with the Falla! Never mind: if the performances are great, who cares.

Annabel Hauk born 1999 in an impressive live recording of JS Bach's D-major cello suite from 2022. I think she has at the same time a mature aristocratic and a balanced expressive approach.

She has all six Bach suites on her repertoire - hopefully she will get the opportunity to record them.

Indeed! Since getting the Big Kubelik Box, I've used this one as car listening when driving to/from a place 25 minutes away. That way, while I'm there, my brain resets between composers.  ;D

Indeed, it would be correct to state the opposite -- [I like everything that conductor did] = [that conductor is good]
