Good afternoon all,

Exploring Korngold properly this afternoon. I only know his Violin Concerto, seen live and enjoyed.

Starting with this Previn CD - The symphony in F sharp bodes well.

Also, may I ask you or any other Schnittke admirer - what are his most approachable works?

You could try the free MP3 of Concerto Grosso No. 3 on archive.org which is where I started.

Trying some very early Bartók - the Scherzo-Fantaisie for piano, Sz.8 - and my goodness that really doesn't sound anything like what you'd expect.

Awonderfull Adrian Willaert done on NON-SUCH, what a release this was, Willaert soundz so alive in analogue power of natural sound , the motets sounds quite clears and fair to says, a fine renditions of his Motets, I cherish Willaert Motets.

He is a big name, so enjoyable to my ears of course, this is not factual but causal...

This LP on NON-SUCH ,such a delight, Willaert the great, Willaert the artist, , his works hugde to me and so much  powerful, You need to ear this , pronto, it's reek genius scatter all over. And whit my ultime LP washer 2000 I have  clear crital pure analogue , whit my clever cleaning machine, some people don't do nothing me I invented or engineer stuff, yap that what deprofundis does.I really like my cleaning chachine and best of all It cost me nada, yep just one  brokeen player or moreso two, I had to design and craft the stuff my machine has 100% potenccy of cleaning mater, LP come out superbb shining after and hour, what can. Has a real musicologist and audiophile I tend to be tedious and exaustive in music the best I can possibly can.

And the solution is keep secret between me and my israelian friend cool Eli '' warn me don't use this dddon't get sucker in price of professional all read set camicule do you're self a favor do it you're self, I CLEAN MY RECORD BEST i can and will possibly do.

Very nice!

Stockhausen: Aus Den Sieben Tagen. I love this one, it's like a better instrumented and more varied version of some of the weirdest early krautrock like Kluster or Limbus 4, or maybe one of the improvised Henry Cow concerts.

Schnittke: Music For Piano And Chamber Orchestra. I'm trying to get more familiar with a small number of albums then gradually widen my listening again, and enjoy everything on this one.

Good plan, and good disc!

How interesting! What is the music like please John? Also, may I ask you or any other Schnittke admirer - what are his most approachable works?
I have Symphony 2 'St Florian' which didn't make much impression on me and the Piano Quintet, which did make a big impression on me.
Early morning listening here - Kabalevsky SQ No.1 (CPO)

PS I just sampled the CPO CD on Amazon and enjoyed what I heard, especially the Slavenski samples. I then found an 'As new' copy cheaply on Amazon  :)

For approachable Schnittke, Jeffrey, I'd suggest the Psalms of Repentance and the Fourth Symphony, which both have great choral writing steeped in the Russian Orthodox tradition.

Not a admirer of Schnittke, Jeffrey, but in the less dissonant works I have explored, I really liked Agony, Clowns und Kinder, Sketches and Glass Harmonica.

I'm not Jeffrey but i'll make a note of those, i don't recollect trying them when i explored Schnittke. Thank you.

The symphony is really good indeed. Nice discovery for me. I recall this particular CD being posted a few times for Korngold (I remember Sarge praising it ?).

They're nice in a different, much quieter way. Schnittke can be quite varied.

One of the finest ballets I know of, comparable to Khatchaturian, colourful orchestration, some really imaginative moments, great fun. Recommended.  :)

+1.

I have another version of it. This cpo disc looks yummy.

Man. The German style of turning Shchedrin into "Schtschedrin" is really something.
