It's Reger-ish, is the best description I can give.

Now, that's the most accurate and appropriate description of this (and many other) Reger work!
Do what I must do, and let what must happen happen.

Good morning all

Another of the Chandos film music series with Rawsthorne's :

A great disc, especially for 'The Cruel Sea'

These are two CDs which mean a lot to me Cesar, especially the Rosenberg which feature, perhaps, his two greatest symphonies. I like Ivanovs as well, especially the early symphonies and 'Late Frost in Spring', which is a film score. Having said that, I think that one of his finest and most moving scores is Symphony 20 which is on Naxos. No.11, disappointingly, has never AFAIK been released on CD - it is one of the best. Here are two of my favourite Ivanovs CDs. It's a while since I heard them so your post has encouraged me to play them again:

I haven't got to listen to Late Frost in Spring yet! Time to remedy that.
The current annihilation of a people on this planet (you know which one it is) is the most documented and at the same time the most preposterously denied. The terror IS REAL!

That CD was one of my earliest introductions to the music of Dvorak and I still hold it in high regard, Dave.

Fenaroli: Stabat Mater [Ciampi]

This is a very fine work that is well crafted. It is written for two voices, is well sung and played here and definitely worth one's attention. The vocal writing is very fine indeed.
