In order to summarize recordings in one word, I am going to try to routinely adopt one word rankings.  This will come in handy as I revisit some big boxes I've not sampled in a while.  It will also allow me to compile a meaningful statistical analysis of recordings I listen to.  The new rankings are: Oof, Ugh, Meh, Nice, Sweet, Yowza.

This disc: Sweet.
The universe is change; life is opinion. - Marcus Aurelius, Meditations

People would rather believe than know - E.O. Wilson

Propaganda death ensemble - Tom Araya

+1 regarding Saint-Saëns. (I love Berlioz's Symphonie Fantastique, Te Deum, and overtures, but the rest of his output I can take or leave.)

I also like the Requiem, the Messe solennelle, the other 3 symphonies, L'enfance du Christ, Benvenuto Cellini, Lélio and Rêverie et Caprice. La damnation de Faust has good music, but overall it doesn't impress me as much as the others.
The current annihilation of a people on this planet (you know which one it is) is the most documented and at the same time the most preposterously denied.

Listening to the 10th from here:

A superb account of this towering symphony. If the rest of the cycle is that good, I'll be planning to hear it with enormous pleasure.

Three string trios by Ysaÿe. A big one for two violins and viola, and two one-movement works for violin, viola and cello. Late Ysaÿe, meaning lots of unusual harmonies, striking glissandi, dissonances and plenty of double stoppings.

Disc one.  78s era Pictures.  Sonic limitations mask some quieter playing, but the bigger issue is that the overall feeling is rushed and some of the louder playing sounds mercilessly hammered out.  Meh.

Enter Spring from this CD is just scintillating in all regards. I was really impressed. Sound and details in full display.

Lady Godiva has some Straussian gestures. This work is less voluptuous, though.

Two great discs Cesar. I don't know a better disc of Frank Bridge's orchestral music than that one conducted by Sir Charles Groves. I've recently been greatly enjoying the new Heritage CD of him conducting the first part of Havergal Brian's 'Gothic Symphony' and 'In Memoriam'. Going back to Bridge, the combination of 'Enter Spring' and 'The Sea' makes that an irresistible disc. I'm looking forward to hearing the new Naxos Novak CD soon:

"Courage is going from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm" (Churchill).

'The test of a work of art is, in the end, our affection for it, not our ability to explain why it is good' (Stanley Kubrick).

Carlo Gesualdo

Well perhaps I am listening to a tour de force, a timeless gem of Huelgas ensemble Alfonso Ferabosco, A spy of English Queen but more notorious for his skill in music organ & polyphony of divine delight. Yes this album is magical in a way how perfect harmony render justice to genie of Ferrabosco trough Psalm , Motets and madrigals... what else can I say this is good stuuff a very welcome album in my audiotheque I have it in CD media,I wonder who like it's beside me?

I've always had great respect for Paddington because he is amusingly English and a eccentric bear He is a great British institution and emits great wisdom with every growl. Of course I have Paddington at home, he is a member of the family, sure he is from the moment he was born. We have adopted him.

Debussy, Three Ballades of François Villon

Songs from just after the first book of Preludes for piano. Really quite interesting. The 1st song is stark, the 2nd much warmer in tone, and the 3rd rapid-fire.
Every single post on the forum is unnecessary. Including the ones that are interesting or useful.

Some Monteverdi, will be getting a more recent recording in January by La Venexiana.

The "Selva Morale ..." collection is much lesser known or recorded than the Madrigals and operas ...
