Part of the tragedy of the Palestinians is that they have essentially no international support for a good reason: they've no wealth, they've no power, so they've no rights.

Morning listening on Spotify:

A recording from 1970. For its age, it sounds pretty progressive/andvanced in terms of period approach.

Thank you for your suggestion, I've just found on YouTube the recording you mentioned and I'll listen to it now, I'm very curious since I've appreciated the wind quintet very much, that's a very thrilling, haunting work (as well as technically challenging from what it sounds). I may have an attempt with Schulhoff's Flute Sonata too, especially because I don't know this composer.

Nice to hear, hope you like it. I'm certainly enjoying it.

Like in the single comment on Amazon, I'm wondering if the harpsichord is the right choice here and if a fortpiano wouldn't have been been more appropriate.

Maconchy String Quartet No 6, Bingham Quartet.

This is an extremely compelling work. The first movement is a passacaglia, which is a musical form I am particularly attracted to (Bach's passacaglia in c minor, Brahms 4th symphony finale, Britten's passacaglia from Peter Grimes, etc). The form is rather restrictive and it takes imagination to maintain interest within the constraints. Maconchy's is a brilliant realization, building from a reserved opening to an impressive apotheosis. The quality of the music continues through the other three movements, an assertive scherzo, a meditative slow movement and a finale that reminds me of Haydn in it's playful imaginativeness. Just a wonderful work.
