Excellent!

Maiden-Listen Monday meets US Music Weekend!

I really should explore William Shuman's music! Good evening, Karl!

TD:

Another American work tonight. Cole Porter (orch. Charles Koechlin): Within the Quota (ballet)

The ballet, commissioned by Rolf de Maré for his Ballers Suédois, premiered in 1923 on the same evening as Milhaud's La Création du monde (must have been quite an evening, eh?  :)).

It's just as fun and enjoyable as I remembered it to be...

Buenas tardes, Rafael! That Cole/Koechlin ballet looks mighty interesting! And you remind me that it is far too long since I listened to this!

So, I loved this piece a lot when I first heard it as an undergrad. It later fell out of my favor (at the time of its being the featured title of a Kronos Quartet CD) Let's try 'er again:

Nice!

Karl, (and anybody), what are your top 5-10 records conducted by Lenny? Just curious.

SonicMan46

Tchaikovsky, Peter (1840-1893) - String Quartets - the two sets below in my collection; listening to a disc of each; both w/ the same works, including the Sextet - Q. Danel a newer performance (2015) by 20+ years but sound excellent on both; keepers for me.  Dave :)

Time to celebrate!

This was an excellent recording btw.  The first was a transcription of the Concord Sonata for symphony orchestra.  The second was the sublime organ symphony.  I think Jacobs holds his own against E Power Biggs.

Excellent disc. Auric was a past master at composing atmospheric film scores.
+1 that's the only CD that I ever won answering a film music online quiz  :)

Tchaikovsky, Peter - Piano Music w/ Viktoria Postnikova - well I've been listening to Peter's symphonic and string chamber works for most of the day and need an aural break!   SO, some relaxing piano music in this 7-CD box for the late afternoon and early evening.  Dave :)

+1 -  :)   For July 4th (our Independence Day), I'm about to grill (just 3 or so mins a side) some marinaded ahi tuna steaks and also have a King Crab leg for each of us - will open a bottle of domestic sparkling wine (Domaine Carneros from CA) and listen to Peter's piano music while we dine -  8)

Maiden-Listen Monday, and American music for the 4th:
Carpenter: Skyscrapers
Klein: LSO

This is a fun piece. It seems somewhere between Stravinsky and Gershwin in style.
