What I presume is the original manuscript title clearly reads "Die Kunst der Fuga". Why, then, is it always spelled as "Die Kunst der Fuge"? Inquiring minds want to know.  ;D

Fuge is the plural of Fuga, you shouldn't eat so much of that pork Andrei, it can put you in strange states mentally. ;D

Quote from: absolutelybaching on December 31, 2022, 06:07:14 AMBecause the title page of the manuscript was written by his son-in-law, Altnickol; Bach himself having karked it at this point. And Altnikol made a spelling mistake.

The first printed edition of 1751 (just a year after Bach's death, of course) reads 'Die Kunst der Fuge', with the correct 'e'. So it's just the manuscript -and not something JSB himself wrote in any case.

Thank you for this illuminating answer. I was really intrigued.

I'm not so sure, Jan. AFAIK, in German Fuge is a singular noun and the plural is Fugen.

Vaughan Williams: Five Tudor Portraits

Even on these socialist-realist scores, the genius of Shostakovich is absolutely evident. Many might call this music 'trashy'. I find it optimistic, invigorating and brilliantly written. In fact, it made me smile at times. The way he held the excitement in some parts is priceless.

I don't remember having heard this choral work by VW before, and it's a most superb composition. Quirky, lyrical, playful. A winner.

I also unreservedly enjoy Shostakovich's film music.

TD: Whatever the reason(s), I'm enjoying The Rake better this time  than ever.

I'm positively sure that if you ate pork kidney or liver, or tripe soup (which is actually made of cow tripe), without knowing beforehand what they are, you'd find them delicious. I have witnessed several Westerners who (very) reluctantly accepted to try them and they eventually ate as much of it as they could.  :D

Nah, I have been many times in Romania, the last time in Timișoara, and I was offered several dishes you mentioned, but quite honestly the thought alone made me sick, and I do not eat pork out of principle. Smelling it  gave me nauseous moments. ???  ???  :o
