A recording that has been my companion for a lifetime, great music and well played by Leonhardt

I would love to sing this. Maybe I'll try and learn the tenor part.

Anton Bruckner: Symphony No.3 in D minor, WAB 103 (1873 original version, ed. Nowak). Georg Tintner, Royal Scottish National Orchestra

First listen to this recording or to the original version at all. It gives a hugely different impression from the revised version. It sounds absolutely massive, spacious, and almost meditative. I am very much enjoying this "Zen Bruckner" in contrast to the "dramatic Bruckner" of the Jochum/Dresden that I have been listening to so much of lately.

Tintner opened the door on the third for me.  Great recording!

What do you think? I don't think I've heard any of Rosbaud's recordings, of anything. Are these in mono or stereo?

Quote from: ritter on May 14, 2023, 05:05:08 AMIt's a live recording, and performed in German translation.

And in mono it sounds like to me. I also forgot to list the singular sounding tenor Gerhard Stolze.

One more Bruckner for the evening:

Anton Bruckner: Symphony No.4 in E-flat major, WAB 104, the "Romantic". Eugen Jochum, Staatskapelle Dresden

Jochum does some REALLY weird things with the tempos in this recording. My first impression is that it sounds all wrong, though I could be having a hard time getting my favorite performances out of my head.

Langgaard: Symphony #5 (Version 2)
Dausgaard: DR

I enjoyed this, and I'm looking forward to listening to more Langgaard. This symphony reminded me of Nielsen (but perhaps more harmonically traditional). The scherzo before the end is humorous.

The most detailed Amazon review says it's mono, and isn't keen on the sound or the chorus, but is keen on the soloists and the music.
