Always good! Oblique to the post by @ritter ... Lenny conducting the Roussel Third. No idea how long since I've heard it. Last I listened was pre-stroke, I'll bet.

Too much English-sounding to depict something related to Greek mythology. The composer's style sounds like Vaughan Williams but without the inspiration.

Definitely one of the more disappointing issues and not Armstrong Gibbs at his best.

Getting my Saint-Saens in for the rest of the year.  At least it's a very fine recording.

It's Stanford's birthday, so I listened to two of my favorites of his works: Symphony #6 and 3 Intermezzi for Clarinet.

Actually, yes. I hope the other symphonies will have more personality.
The current annihilation of a people on this planet (you know which one it is) is the most documented and at the same time the most preposterously denied. The terror IS REAL!

Beethoven: String Quartet No. 7

Somehow I had the need to listen to this work today. A piece that communicates with me deeply.

Brahms: String Quintet No. 2

Extraordinarily brilliant and beautiful music. I'm in love with this piece.

Morning listening:

Absolutely great recording, it doesn't get any better than this.

I might even buy it on disc...  8)

Blimey ;D
Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

I think they certainly do - with the Westmoreland Symphony the best of the bunch

I'm not saying it's entirely rational, but I still have the urge to get the extra special stuff on disc...  :D

Mandryka

Wigmore. Armida Quartet. First of two concerts for me today. Mozart K575 and Schumann op 41/3.  Very senior audience. That's good- I feel young. Full, near as damn it. Ooo, someone's wearing a low quality covid mask! Hope they've not got it. Microphones everywhere so it's being recorded. Lots of excitement in the air, bells ringing in the foyer, lights down, someone's announcing something about hearing aids and mobiles. Bye

They remind me of early Julliard - a sense of keeping the music moving, no fuss. The most impressive bit of the concert was the penultimate variation in the Schumann. Good sound - beautifully fragile sound in the first movement of the Schumann.

My favourite Pettersson's piece, as per now. The 70 minutes of one-movement symphony fly by at breakneck speed. Overwhelming and mesmerising.
