The latest in the Naive Vivaldi series.

Of course it's good.

As the volume tiltle suggests, these concertos were all written for or at least performed by the Pieta's star violinist, Anna Maria.

Two very interesting works. I used to dislike this Violin Concerto, but on this occasion I could understand it better.

The current annihilation of a people on this planet (you know which one it is) is the most documented and at the same time the most preposterously denied. The terror IS REAL!

Rautavaara: Cantus Arcticus
Lintu: RSNO

@Pohjolas Daughter inspired me to finally listen to the entire piece. It's wonderful! One part I liked was how the woodwinds imitated the babbling of the birds in the beginning of the final movement.

PT 1 Opus 21 in B Flat Major
PT 2 Opus 26 in g minor

My memories of the recordings by the Suk and Beaux Arts Trios are hazy, so no comparison--but this is quite good to listen to.

Symphonic Addict

Bowen's String Quartets

I've come to appreciate this composer more and more as I continue exploring his oeuvre. Even though the playing of the Archaeus Quartet is not entirely polished, the performances are not bad either. Music with appealing harmonic, melodic, rhythmic ideas.

Mozart: String Quartet #14, K.387

An excellent performance.

Is it my imagination, or do Rostropovich and Serkin look like brothers in this photo?

Rawsthorne: Piano Concerto No.1 (now No.2)
One of my favourite covers - captures the atmosphere of the music perfectly. I was brought up not far from the Chelsea Embankment.

Lively performance and a good choice of composers, in which there is a fine and detailed contrast in the music. Well done in every respect. SOTA sound.

Jacob (Jacques) Arcadelt. (1507-1568)
Missa "Noe Noe"
Choeur de Chambre de Namur, with the participation of  Cappella Mediterranea Les Pastoureaux, Leonardo Garcia Alarcon & Philippe Favette.
Recording, Namur, Grand Manège, November 2021.

A recent release, and by all means a welcome one. It is done in the same manner as many of their recordings. And yes there is at times no distinction between the one or the other recordings this choir recorded over the years. Seamlessly sung, very even, absolutely beautiful, not a voice out of line, so quite polished. It will not excite a rush of adrenaline, but put you quite quickly into a Zen mood. This said, if in the past you liked their recordings you will like this one too. The Missa Noe Noe, is presented here as part of the Christmas liturgy. Also included are motets not only by Arcadelt, but also by Josquin Desprez. The recording ends with Josquin's imposing Benedicta Es Coelorum Regina for six voices in an expanded version for twelve voices. Instrumental parts are very well done, and the recording is excellent.

Haydn: Symphony No. 73 in D Major, "La chasse"

The Fischer Haydn magic continues. In his hands these symphonies suddenly seem as liberated as the quartets, to follow their whims and go where they wish.
