I watched "Die purpurnen Flüsse" yesterday, mediocre stuff for me, but then this happened, I did not know this song:

"Wer nur den lieben Gott lässt walten".

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=90my2oQ4xD0

This is so beautiful.

Wer nur den lieben Gott lässt walten
und hoffet auf ihn allezeit,
den wird er wunderbar erhalten
in aller Not und Traurigkeit.
Wer Gott, dem Allerhöchsten, traut,
der hat auf keinen Sand gebaut.

Therefore currently on repeat on my Spotify:

VERDI : Nabucco

Verdi's thrilling early opera is ideally served by the masterful conducting of Music Director James Levine and Elijah Moshinsky's powerful production. Juan Pons in the title role of the Babylonian King leads the cast of this biblical drama, opposite Maria Guleghina as the ambitious Abigaille and Samuel Ramey as the noble high priest of Jerusalem, Zaccaria. Gwyn Hughes Jones and Wendy White are the young lovers, Ismaele and Fenena.

Harry

I wanted to know what the fuss was about Cyril Scott, for there were quite a few members who professed a dislike for his music. the term "boring" comes to mind, melodies going nowhere. well guess what, I like what I heard in the samples. Especially his Symphonies.
So anyone that has a regret buying them, and want to dispose the CD'S, send them kindly to me, and I try to find things in my collection that I would like to trade.
What do you say to that?  :) :) :)
Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

"When Time hath gnawed our bones to dust, yet friendship's echo shall not rust"

Starting Schumann's Kreisleriana (Claudio Arrau) from the Complete box from Sony box. One of the finest performances of Kreisleriana.

I like the atmospheric "The Curlew" very much. If it appeals there is a similar work by Arnold Cooke "The Seamew" (seabird) which may be worth investigating.

You must have a very good opinion of yourself to write a symphony - John Ireland.

I opened the door people rushed through and I was left holding the knob - Bo Diddley.

Hi Lol,
I think I appreciated "the curlew" more than I liked it, thanks to the context discussed in the ( very short) composer thread.

I like Arnold Cooke, I have saved the Seamew links on YT, will try it in the coming days. Thank you.

Interesting - I was distinctly underwhelmed.  Well played and good recording but essentially a fairly light-weight fluent and controlled performance that for me lacked the essential ferocity this work requires.  You don't want to think "how well this orchestra is playing" you want to hear them straining at the leash.  By NO means bad but simply not good enough in a crowded field - I must admit I was expecting better....

If the first movement is anything to go by, that sounds like a future purchase.... the start of the second isn't too shabby either...  :)
