Beautiful music!

Indeed! Besides the war horses, I particularly enjoyed Valse-Fantaisie (anticipating in some respects Shostakovich's much famous one) and Children's Polka. Colorful yet light and airy orchestration. A great composer.

That is a very fine set,I have this edition,

gas station closest to us
I ordered that set about a year ago (mainly to have another recording of Les noces in C.F. Ramuz's French translation—to put next to the Boulez on Adès), but the order wasn't fulfilled by the Amazon MP seller.  >:( :( Let's see if another affordable copy surfaces sometime soon...

Enjoying some deservedly classic Tchaikovsky this morning....

The man that hath no music in himself,
Nor is not moved with concord of sweet sounds,
Is fit for treasons, stratagems, and spoils.
The motions of his spirit are dull as night,
And his affections dark as Erebus.
Let no such man be trusted.

Disc 1

Weber: Oberon - Overture
Liszt: Mehisto Waltz no 1
Borodin: Symphony no 2
Rimsky-Korsakov: Mlada - Procession of the Nobles
Tchaikovsky: Francesca da Rimini
Mussorgsky: Sorochintsky Fair - Gopak
Ravel: La Valse

Recordings dating from 1926 - 1930.

Hardly sonically splendid, but what thrilling performances. This first disc showcases Coates's preeminence as a conductor of Russian music (he was born in St Petersburg and studied composition with Rimsky-Korsakov).

All performances on this first disc feature the London Symphony Orchestra, which he headed between 1919 and 1921, and which would appear to be in splendid form here.

I have the 4-5-6 with Mravinsky only. This:

Yours have Sanderling as well. Which symphony doesn't match the two sets? And what's the reason for the disparity?

I believe that the Sanderling/Mravinsky set could be the earlier mono recordings, as opposed to the later, green Mravinsky which is stereo?

Correct -- these are all mono recordings from the 50's, different performances from the green stereo set

Ravel, Maurice (1875-1937) - Chamber Works - now, I also own his orchestral works (Martinon box w/ Debussy), piano concertos (Argerich), and 2 sets of solo piano (Bavouzet & Chamayou) - BUT, last few days, the recordings shown below - now, some may balk at the Orlando Quintet's transcriptions but I enjoy (two contrasting reviews attached, for those interested; plus, reviews of the other discs) - Dave :)

P.S. the Mintz & Bronfman violin sonatas have also been licensed by Brilliant.

Symphonic Addict

Symphonies 1 & 2

Englund's direct influences are Sibelius and Shostakovich. It's interesting to hear what he makes of them in these two works. His style is raw and militaristic at times, but imbued with a real sense of purpose and lyricism.
The current annihilation of a people on this planet (you know which one it is) is the most documented and at the same time the most preposterously denied.
