This collection of varied choral music by Per Nørgård. A wide stylistic range on display, and to my mind Mythic Morning for bass clarinet and 12-part choir is amongst Nørgård's finest works.

As a Nørgård fan, this looks quite interesting, and I haven't heard any of his choral music at all.

Listening to Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France (conductor-less!) in Mozart's Divertimento K. 136. (Live recording from March 7, 2016 at the Auditorium of Radio France.)

Quite spirited, with lots of details audible. Haven't heard the piece in some time, and first encountered it when I was playing violin in high school. (Not sure we did it this fast, to be fair.  8) )

Disc 2.  The Auryn are certainly excellent in the middle quartets, but they are less relatively good than in the Op 18 quartets.

Zelenka, Jan (1679-1745) - Orchestral Works & Trio Sonatas w/ the performers below - wonderful period instrument recordings (reviews attached for those interested); also, have a similar number of discs of his vocal music.  Dave :)

P.S. I own the Accent recording below; Glossa re-released the same recordings (last image).

Now onto Act II from The Humpbacked Horse:

I used to like Reich, but that was before I really got into John Adams and realized how powerful Minimalism (or whatever they want to call these days) could be. I dumped Reich. Lately, I've been getting into Terry Riley's later works and I'm finding him pretty damn good and as a result of this, I bought some recordings (see purchases thread). :)

John Adams's Minimalism has more variety and 'grace' indeed. I could try other works by Reich, but I won't be expecting too much of his music. As for Riley, another composer whose output is unknown to me.

The Little Humpbacked Horse is very tuneful, but perhaps not on the Prokofiev/Tchaikovsky level where you want to listen to the whole ballet in one sitting.

Good to know, Daverz. If there are good tunes it means I can enjoy it. The important thing is the distinctiveness of the music.

I ended up cancelling my Riley order. I guess I'm not really into that whole American Minimalist scene as I thought I was as I prefer those mid-20th Century Americans like Copland, Diamond, Schuman, Bernstein, etc. To be honest, I mainly stick with Russian/Soviet, Czech, Polish, Nordic, British, American, Italian and Latin American composers. Exploring these composers is enough for a lifetime and it seems I'm the happiest when I can hear music from each other these countries. I do like a lot of French music as well, but it's become less important to me over the past year or so.

With all that huge amount of composers it's enough even for two lifetimes.  8)

A craggy work from Schuman, but to be honest, I love all of his symphonies. I think he was a true original.

I'm really enjoying Italian late baroque by these nearly forgotten masters. I bought many of these Naxos discs of Italian baroque maybe 18 years ago, but for some reason I haven't been listening to these a lot, but I should be listening to these more! I think these Naxos discs are successful especially considering there is not much competition around for these lesser known composers. Energetic and beautiful music. I like it!  0:)
