Yes, Kullaberg is a beautiful and quintessential piece of Sweden, with a Mediterranean and dramatic touch, just ~70 km from Copenhagen, much loved by Langgaard and many others .
Must visit. I drive Oslo to Copenhagen twice a year. We have friends in Hvidovre and often stop over on holidays.

Igor Stravinsky
Le Baiser de la fée (The Fairy's Kiss)

Cleveland Orchestra - Oliver Knussen
(rec. 1995)

Just out of the mailbox:

A plush, Romantic outing from Stravinsky, this ballet would serve as an easy introduction for anyone hesitant to explore his music. The quotes and elaborations of Tchaikovsky's Nur wer die Sehnsucht kennt towards the end is beautiful.

I only know Knussen for his modernist compositions, but I like what I hear from him here as conductor. Cleveland is outstanding!

That's good to hear, though it doesn't quite match Norwegian scenery. An in-depth book about the area's importance for Danish or foreign artists (German etc.) would be interesting to make and do research for; to my knowledge it doesn't exist yet. Langgaard often stayed at the Rusthållergården hotel in pretty Arild village, still there.

Pohjolas Daughter

Just finished watching the Sibelius concert from Minnesota.  Thoroughly enjoyed it.  One thing that surprised me though, besides the two symphonies and the humoresques, there wasn't Luonnator and that other work that Bruce had mentioned.  I also looked at the program and today's repeat concert and those works weren't listed there either.  They do have "bonus" ones with samples for Spotify listed though.

Just out of curiosity - because I haven't heard them myself - did you listen to these recent HIP recordings?

Hi Que - I have the above 4 PI versions in a Spotify playlist - own only the Lubin-Hogwood (although I have 3 MI performances) - now listening to Tan-Norrington, fortepiano a little softer than Lubin but similar performances; yesterday, auditioned Brautigam and Wallisch - for me not an easy preference - looked at a bunch of reviews (attached for those interested) - many of the comments are mixed although all recordings 'overall' seem to get a 'thumbs up' rating - Lubin & Hogwood remain a competitive choice, so not sure that I need to cull it out, BUT could add another PI version?  Hard to pick?  Hope some comments are generated - Dave :)

Salomone Rossi Madrigals on Tactus , what and interesting composer, of del arte del madrigali, sooner are later I would have to listen to him, him music quite good, well elaborate, captivating, riveting well that is to me.

If you have obscure madrigalist worth mentioning for innovation, please tell me right away?

Salomone Rossi, music delicate, gentle, in a way full of ellegance.

This is what I think if you take my words for consideration, I wonder how sound Roberto Festo La Colombina secular work of Rossi.

A bit peculiar that we are not given the dates of the non-Takemitsu compositions. The Fukushi is perhaps the highlight of the disc.

Yayyyy!JS Bach at his most unbuttoned and tender! Angela Hewitt made me love this piece. Or was it Friedrich Gulda? Either way, a fantastic work.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Piano Concerto 23 in A Major, K. 488

Vladimir Horowitz, piano
La Scala Orchestra - Carlo Maria Giulini
(rec. 1987)

To my detriment, I don't get to Mozart too often, but always a good start to the new year.

Horowitz plays in a very Romantic manner, and I couldn't imagine a more yearning, soul-stirring 2nd movement.

As I was typing, I remembered a documentary made about Horowitz's concerto recording. Here it is, a Peter Gelb production:
