Waiting for the superstorm Eunice, which will arrive in the Netherlands at around 14:00 Amsterdam-Berlin time.
Last time I had a lot of damage, in total about 130.000 euro's, lets hope this time it will hold all together.
I am far to agitated to listen to music.

Harry, wishing you safety during the storm. Am already seeing reports on Twitter. I have been watching a little of Jet TV, with its live coverage from Heathrow. Earlier it appeared that all flights were grounded, but they appear to be operating again.

Thank you Bruce, All is still in one place, but the winds are frightening enough.
Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

"When Time hath gnawed our bones to dust, yet friendship's echo shall not rust"

Hi Harry - wish you the best of luck!  ???  In 1989, we went through a similar disaster w/ Hurricane Hugo, although our ultimate cost was less then - had 5 trees fall, two on the house punching holes in the roof (luckily the rains had subsided) - our yard was in shambles, both back and front - after the roof repair (complete replacement - covered under insurance), we decided to re-landscape the entire yard (the major expense using a landscape architect) and add an attached back porch - I suspect we paid $50,000 to $60,000 USD at the time - curious, but looking at inflation (quote below) would have been twice the price in today's dollars.  Again, hope that you escape any MAJOR damage.  Dave :)

Quote$60,000 in 1989 is equivalent in purchasing power to about $136,039.35 today, an increase of $76,039.35 over 33 years. The dollar had an average inflation rate of 2.51% per year between 1989 and today, producing a cumulative price increase of 126.73%. The inflation rate in 1989 was 4.82%.

Seems like a very easy place to spend money in  ;D

You might say that, there are demons everywhere. :D

You used to be able to buy the Brilliant CDs at a large drugstore chain.
The then Dutch owner was a classic enthusiast.
It is now in Chinese hands so no more CDs for extremely low prices.
There is quite a snobbery done about these expenses, so cheap that can't be good!
Many recordings are available again through Brilliant, although it is often temporary.
Nowadays the label also makes recordings that are often very good.
But yes, some can not enjoy this because in their eyes there is the wrong box around it.  ::)

You must have a very good opinion of yourself to write a symphony - John Ireland.

I have a eucalyptus which is twisting and dancing precariously.

I learned recently that eucalypts are among the very worst offenders for spreading root damage, if planted too close to the house.  Beautiful trees though, especially in a light breeze.  I have one but fortunately its as far away from the house as it could be, in the far corner of the garden.  In the other corner I have a young sequoia  :o

Just when the storm was recording 122 mph off the Isle of Wight this morning, it was absolute flat calm in my garden (Cheshire/Derbyshire border).  Blowing a bit now though - seemed to peak for me at about 15:30.

Now listening - well nothing, it's too noisy - but most recent listening, Haydn Symphony 49, featuring an organ substituting for the woodwind section.  Rather effective in this minor-key symphony.

Pergolesi, Stabat Mater - but also including Haydn, Symphony 49 - cond. Julien Chauvin

Some new arrivals today:

Scarlatti, Alessandro - Sonatas w/ Pierre Hantai on harpsichord - after an hiatus from recording Vols. 1-3, Vols. 4-6 have appeared - able to buy the CDs of the ones shown, Vol. 4 available as a DL only from my usual sites.  I've owned his Vols. 1-3 since their release a while back and he stills plays w/ vigor and gusto - worth a listen if you like these works on harpsichord.  Dave :)
