Pleased to hear that. I enjoy Yoshimatsu's music.

Yes, I've enjoyed much of what I've heard so far. There's an open-air quality to much of his sonorities that I find particularly beautiful.

Transcriptions of Schumann, Schubert, Strauss, Gershwin, Grainger et al.

As far removed from the contemporary world as the sun from the moon. Superb.

7.  The musical elements are there, but it doesn't really work for me.  Curious.

It's often said that Rutter's Requiem owes a lot to Fauré, and I suppose it does have a certain affinity, but it sounds quintessentially English to me, as does the rest of the music on this excellent disc frm the Choir of Clare College, Cambridge.

Boulez: Structures, Book 1
Alfons, Aloys Kontarsky (pianos)

Music that seeks to strip itself of any vestige of musical history, to attain a kind of pure contemporaneity. Something it does fairly successfully, almost brutally at times, seemingly stripping itself of emotion in the process. The uncompromising and austere results make for fascinating listening.
A world away from the beautiful and brief twelve-tone world of Boulez' 12 Notations pour piano which I had listened to just previously.

The wonder is that you can be fascinated without a recognizable motive and only be absorbed in structured sounds that do not indicate directions so that you are constantly in the moment.   :)

Quite possibly my favorite piece of music ever.

Quite possibly my favorite piece of music ever.

In whatever incarnation I have heard it (cello / viola/ volin / flute), it never failed to give me goosebumps, especially the Adagio and the Allegretto.

It shares a similar soundworld with his Les Frescoes de Piero della Francesca/The Parables/Estampes triptych. Just what doctor suggested.

No. 2 in E minor Op. 24

Generic Late Romantic music, nothing memorable or earth-shattering but:

When music sounds, out of the water rise
Naiads whose beauty dims my waking eyes,
Rapt in strange dreams burns each enchanted face,
With solemn echoing stirs their dwelling-place.

When music sounds, all that I was I am
Ere to this haunt of brooding dust I came;
And from Time's woods break into distant song
The swift-winged hours, as I hasten along.

and

You are the music while the music lasts.

(Truly I am: I detected an echo of the Schubert's Arpeggione Sonata in the Scherzo).

Actually, this is excellent music. I loved it. Kyle, Cesar, Greg, even John(MI) give it a try --- it' on Spotify and I'm very glad I stumbled upon it.

I don't do Spotify and I have a backlog of CDs that I haven't even listened to yet, so perhaps sometime down the road.

Am listening to the Andante sostenuto for the third time in a row. Superb.
