Thank you very much. He was a 57-year old coworker, who, two days after talking with him at work, suddenly passed after a doctor visit.

There are many moments like this that certainly put life in perspective. We worked together the last decade or so.

I am very sorry to hear that. My condolences.

Malipiero Symphony No 4 (dedicated to the memory of Natalie Kousevitsky) de Almeida.

This is a relatively early work, and more romantic in style than Malipiero's later works. Recording is opulent and with a more reverberant sound stage than later issues in the series. It results in a gorgeous, non-strident rendering of the extensive brass parts. Thoroughly enjoyed.
That's my favourite of the Marco Polo/Naxos Malipiero releases.

Most interesting! What's the music like Manabu?
Good to see The Return of Godzilla  8)

Good morning, Jeffrey!
It is like Greek Khachaturian. This disc and the 36 Greek Dances are vg and very likable. I slightly prefer Manos Kalomiris to Skalkottas though.

Brahms op. 8 and (now playing) Dvorak's marvellous piano quartet op.87 (maybe the most underrated of his major chamber works, it's every bit as good as the piano quintet) in the live recording with Lars Vogt and friends (the one without image is a 14 disc box)

Schubert, Franz (1797-1828) - well starting to survey my collection of FS, tragically dead at 31 yrs!  I have a lot of duplication and triplication of his works so will want to cull, replace, possibly add?  Will be searching for threads on specific instrumental genres, such as piano works, string quartets and symphonies - BUT up first a couple of older recordings below.

The Lambert Orkis 2-CD set of non-sonata piano music (last pic below) is played on fortepianos - on disc 1, a Conrad Graf, 1826 (assume restored), and disc 2, Thomas & Barbara Wolf, Washington, 1990 after Nannette Streicher, age?.  Dave :)
