Dvorak cello concerto: Queyras/Belohlavek.

The intense lyricism of Queyras' playing that I'm familiar with from the Bach cello suites also comes through here. Very nice.

Apparently one of the things they have to say is that one of the performers is more important than the other two!

Who is Irina Mejoueva?!

Such a wan, wistful photograph looks like a melancholy portrait out of the 1890's!

From this set -

I was going to listen to the 6th symphony tonight (w/ HvK/Berliners) but I don't have enough time, so this performance of Rückert-Lieder will do rather nicely.

I remember reviews of some of Barbirolli's Mahler recordings, where the critic complained that one heard too many of Sir John's sighs, moans, groans, and other noises on the podium.

I hope this set does not involve those!

Dvorak: Gypsy Songs

The first time that Dvorak really mastered "Lieder" (and it's not inappropriate to call them that, because they were actually designed to be sung in German!).

The 2 slow songs, including Songs my Mother Taught Me, are just heart-stopping when they're sung this well.
