Well, to each his own - I can go both ways depending on the repertoire, I guess - Dave :)

Streaming changed me.  As a cd purchaser I always liked the bang for the buck of the box set.  But when it comes to streaming I prefer individual albums and find those boxes to be annoying.

And then there's a passage that prefigures the 1928 song "When you're Smiling;D

Wait until you get to Jessye Norman singing "O Mensch". Sublime is an understatement... :)

She was amazing!

Johann Sebastian Bach.

Concertos for Harpsichord and Strings.In D minor/E major/D major.
BWV: 1052-1053.

The English Consort, Trevor Pinnock.
1052 is played on a Johannes Ruckers, Antwerpen, 1640.
1053/54 is played on a David Rubio, Cambridge, 1979, after Blanchet, 1733.
Pitch: a=415 Hz, Unequal temperament.

I bought all the individual discs in this series when released, which was about 1981. I played them twice, and after this never again. That was not because they were inferior, but simply lack of time and not enough motivation to listen that often. In my youth other things were prevalent, and my priorities were divided in different directions. When I finally lost many of my wild hairs, I started buying a insane amount of CD's, and even today I find discs I bought but never listened to. Even after culling many of them, and still in the process of removing even more, there are still mountains I have to conquer. I do that, but much slower, and I buy less because streaming finally took a prominent place. So I have to be really interested to buy.
These concertos, and performances,  I would even today, buy in the blink of an eye, for I think them still extremely well performed. There are of course other interpretation that would fill the bill also, but I have no need of them listening to Pinnock and his band. True it is highly polished and dare I say it a tad academic, pretty straight-faced recordings, but I still find them excellent. Still I am in for suggestions, if there is something better on the market.

Might I suggest:

It's on Qobuz.  :)

If there is any music that chases the gloomy thoughts out of my head, it is this work by Charpentier after which the ensemble took its name. Great music, lighthearted, funny and very entertaining .

I rarely visit Rach's piano concertos; I find them overly saccharine. I did rather like PC 1 here, whose opening theme caught my attention, and the middle of PC4 does it for me too.

Aside from their Rhapsody, I enjoyed this recording.

Haydn so manicured and precious that Pogo and Barto would surely nod in approval.  The Schubert is so garishly manicured and at times slow that even Fray and Barto might have misgivings.  Thing is, as with Pogorelich, Barto, and Fray, the executive brilliance becomes the thing.  This is one of the best Sokolov recordings I've heard.

My wife really likes Rach's PC2, so it is spinning.

It has been a long, long time since I've heard the orchestral version of Rhapsody (versus the jazz-band / theatre versions).

This looks interesting! I see that Maestro Halffter is the son of Cristobal and grand-nephew of Ernesto.

Yes good conducting and nice performance! Didn't know about the relationships.
