A beautiful work!

I have no idea why, but I woke up this morning wanting to hear The Miraculous Mandarin.

CD 6

Henri Dutilleux
Tout un monde lointain ... (1968-70)
Godfried Hoogeveen, vc
Yan Pascal Tortelier

Witold Lutosławski
Piano Concerto (1987-88)
Lars Vogt, pf
Daniel Harding

Wolfgang Rihm
Marsyas (1998-99) Rhapsody for trumpet, percussion & orchestra
Reinhold Friedrich, tp
Gustave Cimeno, prc
Geo. Benjamin

The Lutosławski & Rihm qualify for Maiden-Listen Monday!

The Dutilleux is of course exquisite, as I knew. I'm not crazy about either the Lutosławski or the Rihm, and that's okay.

Ok - Hardenberger is a great musician, but I find it always disappointing when the names of composers are not mentioned on the cover.
"French trumpet concertos" : the Jolivet works are well known and have had many recordings. The Suite by Florent Schmitt may be a first as are the "Onze Lieder" by Betsy Jolas.
Henry Barraud's Symphonie concertante for trumpet and orchestra deserves a second chance, I believe. And, worldwide, there must be many more trumpet concertos awaiting a first or new recording...
