Bit of a Holmboe day here, so nice to have the company 😀

A delight-filled mixed rep disc, anchored by yet another Dumky and ending with some Frank Martin.  The world needs more recordings of Frank Martin's music.

People would rather believe than know - E.O. Wilson

Debussy, Claude - Orchestral Works w/ Stephane Deneve and the Royal Scottish NO - on two full CDs containing the 'major' works - my usual 'go to' box is Martinon, 8 discs w/ four each devoted to Debussy and Ravel, so much is missing - but the reviews were uniformly excellent-outstanding (see attachment if interested), and was able to purchase on Discogs for about $17 USD (selling on Amazon for twice that amount) - enjoying now.  Dave :)

The Essential Sibelius - CD4 - Symphonies No.6 & 7.

One of the best deals I ever purchased!  :)

Which is all the more surprising considering BIS usually plays "hard to get". 8)

Silenzio.....mistero....qui regnino intorno.

... Qui veglia costante - la notte ed il giorno

I was particularly taken by the beauty of Tu al cui sguardo onnipossente. A lovely part.

Symphonic Addict

Reger: Variations and Fugue on a theme by Beethoven

This is the kind of stuff in which Reger definitely excelled. Inventive, engaging, not as dense as other of his works, and the fugue is quite imposing.

Lloyd: Symphony No. 12

His last symphony and does sound like a valedictory work. There are some passages that bring Sibelius soundworld to mind. A quite compelling composition.

Still preferring these to the Kontra Quartet recordings. Again, only marginally, but enough to feel drawn to the slightly less raw sound that I'm used to with the Kontra. Perhaps it is just my ears.

vers la flamme

Anton Bruckner: Symphony No.4 in E-flat major, WAB 104, the "Romantic". Sergiu Celibidache, Münchner Philharmoniker

The finale coda is one of my favorite moments in any Bruckner symphony, and no one does it like Celibidache. It's just so massive. Absolutely crushing.
