JS Bach: Well-Tempered Clavier Book II Nos. 13-18 BWV 882-887 [Leonhardt]

Bax: A Festival Overture [Thomson]

It is an interesting and contrasting work to listen to. It essentially does what it says. It is filled with the atmosphere of a festive occasion. It can be boisterous and exuberant and a bit quirky and whimsical in places. However, like most Bax works, it has its contrasting dark and contemplative passages. However, this is compensated for by the surrounding joy and sunshine.

Hi Fergus - I listened to about half of that box off Spotify and purchased as a replacement item in my collection from Arkiv Music for $25 (about the cheapest price I could find) - has not arrived yet but looking forward to playing the actual discs.  Dave :)

Good news so far..... :)

LBCD / Lindenberg Productions B.V. for high-quality CDs, sheet music and books

Since 1988, more than 100 CDs have been released on the quality label LBCD, almost all of them with critical acclaim. Since 2008, the label has been silent for a while due to circumstances. A restart was considered in 2015, when a lecture could be combined with new recordings in Sommelsdijk with Paul Kieviet. It took until 2019 for the new productions to appear, but there were two at once! Organist Ronald de Jong's jubilee double CD box was released in 2016, completely filled with compositions by the jubilee.

From 2017 there were plans for a Sweelinck CD with vocal and instrumental work. That CD was released despite the Corona pandemic. SWEELINCK 2021 IS AT LBCD SO ALSO SWEELINCK 2022!

SCROLL TO THE IMAGES BELOW FOR DETAILS.
ACTIVITIES AT THE RESTART OF LBCD

DISTRIBUTED THROUGHOUT THE NETHERLANDS IN SPECIAL LOCATIONS!
Sweelinck concerts with Collegium Musicum Amsterdam conducted by Anthony Zielhorst and Pieter Dirksen organ

The new CD will be followed up with a series of concerts in the Netherlands - from Groningen to Limburg. We are currently working hard on organizing concerts from May to autumn 2022. Concerts will be held as much as possible in churches with organs in meantone tuning, so that the music of Jan Pieterszn Sweelinck can be interpreted optimally. Soon you will find more information about places and dates in the EVENTS section. Welcome!

Kodály: Theatre Overture

On hearing this work I realize Kodály was a pretty good orchestrator.

Wonderful!

Hello Dave.

I particularly like the musical language and sound world of Poulenc's music. To be honest, I primarily got hold of this set to hear the Poulenc Chamber music. However, as you will already heard from your streaming, you are in good hands with Le Sage. I tend not to comment on either solo piano music or its performers but, to my untrained ear, Le Sage appears to be an excellent pianist and interpreter of this music. I am sure that you have made a good buy there.

Hi Fergus, I don't think so, the last time I went to a concert it was with Morley's madrigals. I've been fighting my tears the whole time. I was actually in the front and could almost touch the singers. There was also instrumental music and there were no inner storms but the moment another madrigal followed the tears welled up again, I found it very embarrassing and feel safer in my home. I can't help it, there is an overpowering joy that makes me defenseless....... ::)

This afternoon also while listening to the Hohe Messe (sanctus). I feel so thrillingly alive  at such moments. It has a cleansing effect as well. :) Don't worry,it doesn't happen all the time. :D

Yes, I know you long enough to understand that but I admire your sensitivity to music in general.  ;)

Other Le Sage recordings in my collection shown below - enjoy both, so was expecting him to perform well w/ Poulenc - :)  Dave
