As a member of our Salmenhaara Fan Club you are obliged to stick with him.
Indeed Harry - along with our good friend Hannu from the Fuga Music Shop in Helsinki which, I'm pleased to report, appears to be an actual shop rather than existing only in cyber-space.

Shostakovich: Symphony No.11 'The Year 1905'
Seems appropriate for these troubled times (new release).
PS - this really is a fabulous performance, reminding me of John Pritchard's legendary BBC account from the 1980s, which I attended (BBC Radio Classics CD).
PPS My neighbours have gone away leaving builders drilling all day in their house. My wife is at work, so I have no hesitation in listening to this at top volume.  ;D

are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

A friend of mine has recently visited this shop, and found it to be a high tech environment, with a friendly staff. He bought me a few surprise CD's, but I have no idea what. At least he is aware that I have the Salmenhaara already :)

How lovely Harry! I hope that he met the legendary Hannu!
:)

Although this is more my idea of what a record shop should look like:

Yes he did, and he can confirm he is not a girl.

Ah great! An excellent piece of on-the-spot research. Please thank your friend on my behalf for clarifying this uncertainty.  8)

PS I think that it's very laudable that you should arrange for your friend to travel to Helsinki to clarify this.  8) 8) 8)

There are two opinions about the art, mostly negative, but I like them somehow.
All the recordings in this series have the same art work, by Beate Kliche.

Minnaar, Hannes - have not heard this Dutch pianist before - made aware of the Shostakovich recording of the Preludes & Fugues in its own GMG thread this morning - so, put together a Spotify playlist with the two recordings below, i.e. plus Bach's Goldberg Variations - enjoying his interpretations of the Shosty; Goldbergs up next - about to search for some reviews but any comments appreciated.  Dave :)

Recorded in 1965.
Anyone know the original of the cover art? Google Image Search locks onto the fact that it's an album cover, and insists on showing similarly cover art for LPs/CDs, but nothing about the art itself.
