Surely a vegetarian meal with pumpkin soup in advance and stewed bamboo sticks    ;D

Change of pace towards one of Britain's more enigmatic symphonists. I appreciate he is an acquired taste, but after lots of patience and close listening, I wouldn't be without him. I find his sound world and uniqueness completely compelling, and this primal, shifting, seascape with all of its dark unpredictability and chaos, immensely fascinating.

I've listened to his string quartets before but never his orchestral works.

Brian Rayner Cook, baritone
Scottish NO - Neeme Järvi

Long got rid of Järvi's Dvořák symphony cycle. I still hold on to the Symphonic Poems and this compilation of filler works from that cycle, although I don't know if I need to keep this one anymore.

I am sure it is not the most authentic or authoritative, but I really like Rayner Cook's singing in the Biblical Songs here.

What a pity, I think the Jarvi recordings of his Symphonies quite good.
Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

I enjoyed it though. As a best guess, it was part of a culling from a move.

And what will the sommelier pour in the glasses?  :D

Definitely a solid non-alcoholic rhubarb wine with added raisin porridge.  ;D

The festivities will not kick off in this house until this evening.
However, that will be somewhat tempered with stress and pressure as we will be having my 100 year old mother-in-law to dinner and I am the cook ;D

Happy celebrations ahead then! I am sure it will be fine  ;)

There, I'll warm things up for you:

Frank: Sonata for Violin and Piano [Mordkovitch/Sternfield]

This is a wonderful work and it is well presented here. The tempo is very appropriate in the opening movement. The tone is one of general subdued emotion.
The second movement is executed on the turbulent side. It has a very exciting conclusion to it.
The byword for the presentation of the third movement is definitely intensity.
Intensity is also a mark of the final movement but in a different way. It also has great forward momentum and a good measure of excitement to it.

Edouard Lalo.
Symphonie G minor.
Cello Concerto in D minor.
Namouna, (Ballet)
Torleif Thedeen, Cello.
Malaysia PO, Kees Bakels.
Recorded in November 2002 (Cello Concerto, Namouna) and December 2001 (Symphony)
at the Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS Hall, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Playing Time = 75 minutes.

This is quite a good performance of the Cello concerto. The cellist is a very impressive musician, he gives a strong and soulful performance. The Malaysian Orchestra performs with a robust strength, lots of colours and virtuosity. Bakels clarifies Lalo's writing to such a level, that all gets perfect lucid. The BIS recording is impressive.

The specific request is for an omelette so I will fill it with lightly fried smoked salmon and and add in some crab meat.
That will be served with shredded and lightly broiled Brussel sprouts [Green colour] with Worcestershire Sauce to spice things up, roasted rings of Celeriac [White colour] and mashed and peppered turnips [Orange coour]. These coloured vegetables will represent the colours on the Irish flag  ;)

The sauce will be Dijon mustard added to cream and laced with flat leaf parsley.

Unfortunately I am also on chauffeur duty so the sommelier will be only pouring an alcohol free Prosecco for me.

However, I do have some nice Riesling in reserve for when I get home  8)

Here is a Life lesson for us all: she probably drinks 4 x 100 ml glasses of wine in a year. And she has only started to "drink" since she turned 80 years old. Perhaps that is why she is now a healthy 100 year old woman  ;D
