The writing for the future of the CD is on the wall... I can already notice that physical editions are becoming smaller and smaller since they run out of print within a year...
The signs have been visible.

It is nice to have both, since sometimes a problem with streaming is solved by having the CD, and sometimes a problem on the CD is solved by streaming. I have no use for CDs themselves, since I immediately rip them and add then to my FLAC file collection (with a scan of the booklet). I with I were confident that lossless downloads will remain widely available.
Formerly Scarpia (Scarps), Baron Scarpia, Ghost of Baron Scarpia, Varner, Ratliff, Parsifal, perhaps others.

Quote from: Harry on June 20, 2025, 01:29:01 AMAfter I have finished upgrading my system I will dive in the theory and practicality of ripping some of my CD'S, and what equipment I need to do that. At the moment I am auditioning the Bricasti Amp M 15, and the Bricasti Pre amp M 20, and selected  better interlinks, XLR from Ansuz C 2, which I might change in a later stadium to a C 3, depending on the outcome of their respective qualities.
Thanks for alerting me to the fact that ripping is a possibility.

The sheer size of your collection makes it impractical. Just ask Gurn, he is still working on it! Whatever you can stream doesn't need to be ripped imo.

My last CD player — long since sold — was from the French high-end brand Jadis. And even it, while playing music magically, had technical problems with low-quality CDs or CD rips on burned discs. Streaming turns all of this into non-issues, always and in every case working perfectly.

It's what you can't stream which needs to be ripped.

Symphonic Addict

Dvorak: Symphonies 8 and 9

The 8th receives a first-class performance. The 9th doesn't IMO.

The current annihilation of a people on this planet (you know which one it is) is the most documented and at the same time the most preposterously denied.

Symphonic Addict

Hindemith: Konzertstück for Trautonium and strings and Nobilissima Visione

The first piece is a real curiosity. The Trautonium is an electronic synthesizer invented in 1930 by Friedrich Trautwein in Berlin at the Musikhochschule's music and radio lab, the Rundfunkversuchstelle (taken from Wikipedia). It gave me the perception of imitating the sound of several instruments, among them the oboe, double bass, saxophone, trumpet, etc. A very nifty composition to say the least.

How the Trautonium looks like:

The current annihilation of a people on this planet (you know which one it is) is the most documented and at the same time the most preposterously denied.

Such an amazing work. There is another recording of Naive and Sentimental Music, but it doesn't match the energy, drive and incisiveness of this Salonen/LA Philharmonic performance.
