Quote from: Que on December 06, 2025, 04:39:32 AMIt should be on Qobuz? With the cover of the reissue - which I found too ugly to post and therefore opted for the original cover.

Finally I understand, thickheaded as I am, when I wrote I had it bookmarked I meant this album. I have the original front cover, and thought the one you posted was a new release. My bad, I should have watched more closely. I was sidetracked..... ;D  ;D

A great disc.  It is well played on beautiful instruments. The sound is created in a warm yet detailed ambiance. The love and dedication this ensemble puts in, is amazing and very satisfying. The composers on this disc should please many, it sure made my day better, for the clouds outside darkens everything, and the more it does, the more this music shines brightly. Recommended.

Krommer, Franz - Partitas for those who like small wind ensembles - he wrote 38 Partitas according to the List compiled by Karel Padrta (see attachment - mine are in bold and comprise about 14, actually closer to 20 with the duplications & even triplications) - these are on a half dozen CDs shown below (Hoeprich's group and the Amphion Wind Octet on period instruments).  Dave

Age of Indulgence.
See back cover for music.
Les Délices.
Recorded, 2015 at First Baptist Church in Shaker Heights, OH.

What a fine disc to close the day with. I somewhat underestimated this ensemble but that was a mistake, which this performance proves without a doubt. Excellent musicians, alert, micro details clearly audible and rhythmically and dynamically a dreamteam. The choice of composers is well chosen, and cleverly put together. Very enjoyable and recommended without doubts. SOTA recording.

After returning to the Hindemith Wind Sonata, I was originally going to skip the Bassoon sonata, since I don't find the sound of the bassoon particularly attractive. I'm glad I didn't because it is an interesting work. I still don't like the sound of the bassoon and wish someone would transcribe it for an instrument with a similar range, I guess a French horn or a cello.

I also listened to the oboe sonata again, which continues for fascinate me.

First listen to A Child of Our Time by Michael Tippett, and liking it a lot. Though most pals recommend versions conducted by Colin Davis (e.g., the 1975 recording with stellar soloists, including Jessye Norman), I'd also heard good things about this one, with the composer at the helm. The libretto, penned by Tippett, is sober, piercing, prescient.

Quote from: Mandryka on December 06, 2025, 12:55:49 AMI like that recording very much. He also recorded the preludes.

Re the Messiaen, the one I'm really impressed by at the moment is Le Courlis Cendré.

I need to be prepared to give that ambitious and unique work a proper listen, hopefully soon.
