Ravel: L'Enfant et les Sortileges

It's many years since I last listened to Ravel's incredibly inventive score. I might have to give it another spin tomorrow to make up for it.

The stage directions seem incredibly complex, I wonder if it isn't staged often because it's difficult.

Nobody has to apologise for using their brain.

Silent Night
Early Christmas Music and Carols.
HIRUNDO MARIS.
Recording: Kirche Maisprach, Switzerland, June 15–18, 2018.

"There are few such wonderful things as Christmas. Nearly 2,000 years on, the night in which a great
human being was born is celebrated by almost all people on this earth. It's a time when people say only
loving words to one another and want to do good to everyone. Isn't that wonderful?"

Since Christmas is Icumen, and the light comes back in the world, or so we hope, but for me that is a certainty, the first disc is the last Christmas CD I bought, and the first that I am streaming on my new gear.
Singing is one of the best ways to bring people together. It's very spiritual. We can't touch it, but we can all feel it deep in our hearts.
Of course this performance is sweet, not really traditional, and despite being a 96/24 bit recording not really high Res, it carries the spirit nevertheless. So let there finally be peace in the world, and silence, for the birth of Christ is at our doorstep. Open the door.......
Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

Star of the Magi.
Christmas Music.
Works by Dandrieu, Merula, Caurroy, Lebegue, Byrd, Turini, Anonymous & Traditionals.
Suzie LeBlanc, Soprano, Daniel Taylor, Tenor. Les Voix Humaines.
Recorded, 1999, St. Augustin Church de Mirabel, Quebec.
Reissued, 2006.

For me one of the best Christmas CD's in my collection. Suzie LeBlanc is in good voice, and she carries together with the Voix Humaines the Christmas spirit to heavenly lengths. SOTA recording.
Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,

are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

Is it me, or did Gustav Leonhardt have a striking resemblance to Maurice Ravel? I first thought the the post by @Que  was actually by @Madiel:)

Luys Milan (1500-1561)
Music for Vihuela & Renaissance guitar.
Jose Miguel Moreno, (Vihuela), Eligio Quinteiro, (Guitar & Vihuela)
Recorded, 2003, Ermita de  Robledo de Navahonda  de Chavela, Spain.

Moreno added a second voice or so you will a counterpoint to these pieces for the Vihuela, in the form of a guitar. And it works, apart from the loss of the intimacy of the Vihuela, which I think is a essential requisite of this beautiful instrument. In this way it gets too much body and makes the music earthbound. I like what I hear, but for my money I would keep to the instrument what it was meant for. Superb recording and performance, it cannot be faulted.

Christmas has always been a particular source of inspiration for composers in Lutheran Germany. Especially at the beginning of the 18th century, the pieces here took on a particularly festive form. In addition to works for the Christmas festivities, this double album also includes a reconstruction of a Christmas mass by Michael Praetorius. Reasonable sound and performances, some are good to very good.

The bass recitativo "Siehe , ich  stehe vor der Tür und klopfe an" of BWV 61 is probably my favourite recitativo of all cantatas by Bach.  :)
Spatial distortion is a serious problem deteriorating headphone listening.
Crossfeeders reduce spatial distortion and make the sound more natural
and less tiresome in headphone listening.

The second of these impresses me considerably.

Whereas the thing about the dancing one is that they don't have to worry about the practicality of singing.

The two symphonies, a genre I normally don't care for, are easily the highlights. Extraordinary music. :)
The Raid Symphony is very special.
