I picked up the 3-LP box set of this wonderful performance (or so I think anyway...) for a song on eBay Germany many years ago and have listened to it many a time since.  The thing is, inside the box were foam inserts on top and bottom (I'm unsure if they were original or added by the first owner) which over the years had almost completely disintegrated.  Luckily I own a record cleaner and after 5 or so washes no more gunk seemed to emerge from the tracks.  The records are otherwise absolutely mint, with not a single mark.  They also sound superb, but sadly remain chock full of ticks.  Hence I thought I would pick up a new box of the same performance, which brings up this question:

The recording is available both on DG and Decca US, both 1957 release (and others), and I don't know which one to get.  Would perhaps someone here know if one is likely to sound better than the other?  Also, the Decca (Decca Gold Label) states that it is pressed in styrene - which tells me nothing, good or bad.

I'd be most grateful for any insight offered into which release might be the better one in terms of sonics.  Failing that I suppose I shall simply pick up the DG again, since I already know it to sound excellent, and hope for a tick-free experience this time around.

Thanks in advance!
